I’ve seen numerous examples of employee recognition statements from years of working with corporations and company-owned venues. As a self-employed freelancer, I have yet to experience any recognition from my clients, or get recognized for my work. I’ve met some very nice people who have “problems” with keeping the business name or logo known and a few who made some nice things happen concerning me. But I haven’t found one customer or client who has given me a fist bump or a handshake, as they should.

And to me, that’s the most disheartening thing about having a job owner that discourages me from giving it my all. No matter how hard I work and how honest I may be, and no matter how much I admire people who can be successful without the help of a boss, I don’t believe that an employer is ever going to recognize the hard work that I do for them.
If you have not had problems with the employees in your business, then you are in a privileged position. You are the boss, and therefore the only one that can give out a fist bump to an employee or you’re a “perfect person” (whatever that means). Unfortunately, for those of us who want to work hard for our businesses, we tend to be treated as second class citizens.

The best examples of employee recognition statements I have come across come from my “clients”. The best ones I could find were from clients who cared enough to pick up the phone and call me. Most of the time, they are seeking a certain kind of support and are willing to pay for it. Those types of clients don’t want excuses for not giving us what we need.
I found examples of these employee recognition statements from clients who like to pay their way, but are willing to pay a little extra to make sure we get what we want. There is no shame in wanting to do the right thing for your business. It’s up to you to show your employer that you are taking action to make changes so that your business is better than it was before.

The reason employees aren’t recognized is because they don’t have any other options. When the buck stops with them, they won’t hesitate to let their employees know that they aren’t happy with the services they’re providing. They want the one time they can tell someone else to “shut up and fix it.” They want to make sure they are getting everything they pay for, and they have no choice but to cut costs by not paying their employees enough.
My goal is to put myself in the shoes of the employees I am working with. Let’s face it, without good employees, the owner isn’t going to be around for too long. So if you have a friend or relative who will reward you for doing your job with respect, it’s time to reciprocate.
